OUR
At the Young Guns, our Flag Football Development Program goes far beyond the basics—it’s comprehensive, challenging, and intentionally built to develop the whole player.
From coaching and technical skills to mental resilience, leadership, and personal growth, we cover every dimension to ensure our athletes rise above the rest both on and off the field.
As a coach in sport, you are never delivered. There is always more to learn, and it has been Coach Young’s philosophy throughout his coaching career to be a lifelong student of the game.

ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT
Athletic development involves improving an athlete’s physical attributes—composition, strength, speed and power—as well as each athlete’s unique skillset . These qualities are essential for long-term success.
A player can have excellent technique, but enhancing these physical attributes can further improve their skills and refine them into a more complete athlete.
Our goal is to work with the athletes to help enhance and grow their development while enjoying the sport of flag football.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Skill development involves zeroing in and enhancing the skills required for sport and position within flag football. While athletic development is very important, it cannot compensate for a lack of skill at different competitive levels—this principle applies to all sports.
Through specific, focused practices, our goal is to utilize our players’ athletic development and hard work to enhance and perfect their existing skills. We aim to enhance our players strengths and natural abilities while working on areas of concern to enhance their growth as an athlete.
TECHNICAL & TACTICAL DEVELOPMENT
Technical and tactical development are incredibly important for our players growth.
Just like athletic and skill development, focusing on different aspects yet are interconnected areas of performance.
Technical skills involve the physical execution of movements specific to the sport of flag football, while tactical skills involve understanding and implementing strategic decisions and applying them effectively in game situations.
MENTAL DEVELOPMENT
Mental development is a crucial, often overlooked aspect of player development—especially in competitive sports where physical strength and endurance are often emphasized. We understand that ongoing mental development is key for an athlete’s growth.
It’s important to win and lose while maintaining composure—understanding this is a part of our growth as a team and individually. Maintaining emotional control contributes to our overall psychological well-being.
This is a critical step in growth, cultivating mental toughness, and learning how to manage pressure and setbacks—skills and growth in sport which ultimately translate to life.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Flag Football, like most sports, emphasizes teamwork and the idea of being “One Team”. While this is a central part of our program, we also recognize that each athlete’s personal development plays an equally important role.
As a coach, it is essential to set a foundation built on communication, resilience and passion to strive for success rather than fear failure.
The goal of personal development is to help players grow not only in their athletic abilities, but also in their mindset, problem-solving skills and overall attitude towards life, enabling them to become the best versions of themselves on and off the field.
